CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo - Maj. Gen. David A. Sprynczynatyk, adjutant general, North Dakota National Guard, and Maj. Gen. (Puerto Rico) Antonio J. Vicens, adjutant general, Puerto Rico National Guard both visited Camp Bondsteel to attend the Transfer of Authority Ceremony, July 24, from Multi-National Battle Group East, KFOR 12 to MNBG E, KFOR 13.

During their visit to Kosovo, both also visited local communities and toured area landmarks.

"We took the generals to see the Freedom Bridge and the Shrine of the Black Madonna," said Capt. Jose Plaza, Caguas, Puerto Rico, Joint Visitors Bureau. "They are two of the local communities' main attractions."

"I am very impressed with what I have seen of the land and the people, so far," said Sprynczynatyk, Bimarck, N. D.

The Freedom Bridge in Viti/Vitina, was built over the canal that separates the town into two distinct sections.

"One side was predominately Albanian, the other Serbian," said Capt. Angel Lopez, Guanica, Puerto Rico, team leader, 192nd Liaison Monitoring Team. "The bridge symbolizes the town getting over old grudges and moving forward."

The second stop on the tour was the Shrine of the Black Madonna in Letnica/Letnice.

"The church was beautiful," said Sprynczynatyk. "It is a very beautiful place, and the history here is impressive."

While in Kosovo, Sprynczynatyk, a Rotary Club member in North Dakota, made a stop in Prishtina/Pristina to visit with three rotary clubs during a joint meeting of the Prishtina International, the Dadania and the Prishtina Rotary Clubs.

The generals left with a new sense of what their Soldiers have been doing and what their Soldiers will be facing for the next several months.

"I am very pleased to be back in Kosovo," said Sprynczynatyk. "It feels good to see the great job the North Dakota Soldiers did with the time they were here. It's great to see the benefits the people have received because of the Soldiers' hard work."
