Community Celebrates Completed Projects in Dehdadi

DEHDADI DISTRICT, Afghanistan -- The Dehdadi District community celebrated the completion of several projects, Aug. 7, during a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Sharabad Clinic in Sharabad Village, Afghanistan.

Emam Construction-Rehabilitation Organization Construction Company employees worked alongside Soldiers of Red Platoon, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, to complete several well improvements and upgrading of latrines in villages of Dehdadi District.

“I rebuilt two toilets for the women, two toilets for men and a hand pump for the well,” said Yaser Hashime, an engineer with ECRO Construction Company, talking of his work at the Sharabad Clinic.

In all, seven projects were completed; well improvements, rebuilt latrines area residents to use, two clinic sites, two school sites and two mosques sites in the district.

“He was the contractor for all of them,” said 1st Lt. Emilio Aquino, the platoon leader for Red Platoon, HHC, 1st BSTB, referring to Hashime.

This site is Sharabad Clinic, where a well was improved and two latrines were rebuilt, said Said Khaibr, site engineer with ECRO Construction Company. There is a male Abuzaid School and a female Abuzaid School that each has their own well, both those wells were improved also.

“We had no problems,” Hashime said. “The improvements help a lot because they put a pump here and the people of the village can use it.”

“Hagi Mohammad Khan is an elder of a village that goes by his name, where the Chil Daukh Taran Mosque’s well was improved and another well was upgraded at the Saidjan Mosque too.” said Khaibr.

“It is better than doing nothing,” Hashime said. “It is a good way to join with the coalition forces, for the people. Whenever we go anywhere the people working with the building ask me who is paying for this and we tell them you guys.”

He has a lot of people he was responsible for when he campaigned in this area for Hamid Karzai, Hashime said. “He knows a lot of people from the campaigning and he agreed his work for the Army may help him get more work from the locals.”

“I will get some business from people seeing my success, working and competing projects with the Army,” said Hashime.

There are more than 23,000 families in Sharabad Village alone, the largest village in Northern Afghanistan. That is just one of the villages within Dehdadi District.

“For your working and building a lot of wells, we want to thank these guys for being here,” said Ali Shah, Dehdadi District Governor and sub-governor for Balkh Province. “These projects will help the people. Thanks to everyone who helped us with security and construction, especially Capt. Williams and Lt. Aquino. We again want to thank these guys for their help and I hope they will continue to help us in Afghanistan.”
