VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - The Vandenberg Wing Chapel Ecumenical Program is currently hosting its "Operation Space" Vacation Bible School program for youth at Chapel 1 from 9 a.m. to noon June 14 - 18.

"This event is important because it enables our youth to participate in a safe, fun, enriching spiritual environment," said Brandie Lawrence, a Wing Chapel community coordinator.

The "Operation Space" Vacation Bible School program is designed to teach children about the solar system and planet trivia while also introducing them to songs, Bible verses and biblical and spiritual training for a deeper understanding of the word of God.

Approximately 180 children from the Vandenberg and surrounding communities have come out to participate in the program , making it a success.

"The faithfulness of dedicated volunteers and coordinators; the amazing support from an awesome staff; and prayer all made this event a success," Ms. Lawrence said.

The program coincides with the Year of the Air Force Family initiative. The Secretary and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force named July 2009 through July 2010 the Year of the Air Force Family. The Year of the Air Force Family is used to highlight the many successful programs already in place and to inform Airman and their families of the development of new programs, unveiling them throughout the year. The topic for the month of June is mental and spiritual health.

"Programs like 'Operation Space' equips parents with the skills and practices to share their faith with their children," Ms. Lawrence said. "It also provides a fun and safe environment for the youth to express their religious freedoms."
