FORT SILL, Okla. - A reveille ceremony marked a historic first for the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence, Fort Sill, Okla., Aug. 17.
The ceremony, which commemorated Col. Daniel L. Karbler’s new position as chief of staff of the U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence, also marked the first time an Air Defense Artillery soldier has held that position. The U.S. Army Fires Center of Excellence is now home to both the U.S. Army Field Artillery School and the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery School. Karbler recently relinquished command of 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill, following a one year deployment to the U.S. Central Command Theater of Operations. During the ceremony, Karbler reaffirmed his commitment to his new responsibilities.
“The post has gained great momentum over the past year. My task is to continue that momentum, to always strive for the excellence found in the title Fires Center of Excellence,” said Karbler, who succeeded Col. Matt R. Merrick, deputy commandant, U.S. Army Field Artillery School, who served as interim chief of staff following Col. Robert Bridgford’s departure.
