MOSUL, Iraq (Feb. 14, 2005) - Maj. Fallah Hammadi Hindni, Iraqi police station chief, Southeast 6, and his police officers went to the Al Abed elementary school in the Palestine neighborhood to give out school supplies they had received from Operation Iraqi Children Feb. 14.

The Al Abed elementary school was used as a polling cite during the elections Dec. 15, 2005. During the elections the head mistress of the school told Coalition Forces that the girls attending the school did not get school supplies, unlike the boys attending the same school.

The 401st Civil Affairs battalion was notified of the head mistress" comments. The 401st CA coordinated with OIC to get school supply kits for the girls.

OIC is an organization that enables Americans to donate school supply kits to Iraqi children. The program was founded by Hollywood actor Gary Sinise and best-selling author Laura Hillenbrand.

Each school supply kits contain a variety supplies to include: one pair of scissors, one 12 inch ruler with metric markings, 12 new pencils, one small pencil sharpener, one large eraser, a box of colored pencils, a package of loose leaf paper, a composition notebook, three folders, and one zippered pencil bag. Everything these Iraqi children would need to start their journey of education.

After the 401st CA received the OIC school supplies they linked up with Maj. Fallah and his team at SE 6 to deliver the kits.

"This is the largest supply operation that has been put together to support school children, that we have done," said Maj. Roy A Outcelt, team leader, 401st CA, Team Alpha, who was on site to assist the IP.

The reaction at the school was one of excitement. The girls all lined up in neat and orderly lines with smiles ear to ear. Giggles and laughter rose above the commands from the IP. The girls were very thankful for the gifts, thanking every adult they saw in uniform.
