BAGRAM, Afghanistan – The 46th Military Police Command, Lansing, MIich., received their combat patch on August 21st, the 100th day of deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Spc. Courtney Lewis is the first soldier to receive the 46th Military Police Command’s combat patch.
The combat patch ceremony has a history that dates back to 1945. This ceremony officially designates troops as combat veterans, having proven their service for a period of time in a combat zone.
The combat patch, which is worn on the right shoulder of the U.S. military uniform, symbolizes past or active participation in wartime service. The wearing of a combat patch also signifies a Soldiers participation in the continued freedom and protection of the liberties for the people of the United States of America.
