BAGHDAD – Sgt. Maj. Clark Charpentier, sergeant major for the division surgeon section with 1st Armored Division, United States Division – Center, and a Houma, La., native, received orders from Command Sgt. Maj. William Johnson, command sergeant major of 1st Armd. Div. and USD-C, Aug. 29, at Camp Liberty, Iraq, appointing him to the position of command sergeant major of the Troops Command Battalion at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, assuming responsibility no later than Nov. 1.
Charpentier also received the Bronze Star Medal from Maj. Gen. Terry A. Wolff, commanding general of 1st Armd. Div. and USD-C, and the Army Commendation Medal from Lt. Col. Vincent Barnhart, division surgeon for 1st Armd. Div.
“This is very humbling because so many other [senior leaders] have helped me along the way,” Charpentier said. “This position is not about me, it is about the Soldiers and the mission.”
Charpentier joined the Army, May 13, 1993, as a combat medic and served at seven other duty stations before coming to the 1st Armd. Div. in the summer of 2009.
“When it is all said and done, the thing that I hope to do during the remainder of my time as a leader in the Army is to positively influence each Soldier I come in contact with and at the same time learn something about them and how I can help them,” he said.
