CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan – Fifty corporals with 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward) graduated from Corporals Course Class 14-10, Aug. 28.

The corporals graduated from the 21-day course that included combat conditioning, guidon and sword manual, and Marine Corps rules, regulations, customs and courtesies at the small unit level. They also received classes on combat operations, the noncommissioned officer mindset, counseling for Marines, mounted and dismounted patrol procedures, tactical communications and how to properly run unit physical training sessions.

Marines from Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (Forward), Combat Logistics Battalion 2, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, and Headquarters and Service Company participated in the course.

The honor graduate was Cpl. Benjamin Cox, a combat engineer with 1st Platoon, Alpha Company, 9th ESB, 1st MLG (FWD), 24, from Eugene, Ore.

“The honor graduate was very enthusiastic and eager to add more knowledge to his tool box,” said Staff Sgt. Juan Escalante, 34, from Dudleyville, Ariz., the chief instructor for the course. “He was a model NCO with experience past his peers. He’s an overall outstanding leader.”

Every NCO came to the course with a positive mindset and had the drive and mental attitude to learn from the class instruction and from their fellow corporals, added Sgt. Myrna Galvez, 24, from Orange County, Calif., a Corporals Course instructor.

The newly-graduated corporals are now ready to exercise the knowledge gained during the course to lead the next generation of Marines.

“The corporals were very eager to learn,” added Sgt. Maj. Brenda Jackson, sergeant major for H&S Comapny, 1st MLG (FWD). “The corporals are very professional young Marines. I know just by talking to them and seeing them that they will continue to pass on the knowledge they were taught, and they will definitely mentor the Marines they lead.”
