KABUL - Afghan and coalition forces detained several suspected insurgents in Khost province Thursday while in pursuit of a Haqqani facilitator responsible for planning and executing multiple indirect fire and improvised explosive device attacks in Sabari and Musa Khel districts.
Acting on intelligence reports, Afghan and coalition forces targeted a compound southeast of the village of Paru Kheyl in Sabari District to search for the facilitator. Afghan forces used a loudspeaker to call for all occupants to exit the compound peacefully and then secured the area.
After initial questioning at the scene, the security force detained the suspected insurgents. The security force found multiple weapons at the scene.
"Haqqani Network leadership is constantly putting Afghan civilians at risk with their tactics. Capturing the facilitators takes the enablers of these attacks off the streets," said U.S. Army Col.
Rafael Torres, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command Combined Joint Operations Center director.
The security force did not fire their weapons and they protected the women and children for the duration of the search.
