    II Marine Expeditionary Force

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CEHRRY POINT, N.C. - Marines with Marine Wing Support Group 27 said farewell to their commanding officer, Col. Stephen F. Kirkpatrick, and welcomed Col. Daniel B. Conley during a change of command ceremony at the squadron’s headquarters building, Sept. 15.

“Kirkpatrick has set the bar high here at MWSG-27,” said Maj. Gen. Jon M. Davis, commanding general of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing. “He has led his Marines through rough times, and he has made it possible for group 27 to be mission ready in a short amount of time.”

Kirkpatrick was the commanding officer for MWSG-27 for 28 months and will head to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island next.

“These are a bunch of stalwart Marines,” said Kirkpatrick. “They are well led and always in the fight. It has been an honor being a part of this team.”

After hearing the things Kirkpatrick has done for the command and 2nd MAW, Conley had only good things to say about his predecessor.

“I have the best group in the world,” said Conley. “I expect them to continue the legacy that has been set forth by Colonel Kirkpatrick. He is a great leader, and I wish him well on his future endeavors.”

Davis said with change comes new expectations from the command, and he let the audience know how he felt about Conley.

“I think Conley is the perfect guy to lead 27,” Davis said. “I’ve heard nothing but great things about what he has accomplished in the past. He has thrived in tough assignments, served in a Marine wing support squadron in 1st MAW, commanded an MWSS in this wing, and he leads from the front.”

Conley presented his new Marines with his expectations as well.

“The Marines and sailors with MWSG-27 are smart and know what I expect out of them,” said Conley. “I expect the same out of them as I do myself and that is hard work, dedication and their very best in everything they do. They give that to me and we will be just as successful in the future as our past.”
