MAIMANEH, Afghanistan – Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery, of the 10th Mountain Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team delivered computers and various other supplies to the Women’s Center in Maimaneh Sept. 17.
Capt. Maria Gregory, the Golf Company Commander, and 1st Lt. Anna Ko, a maintenance control officer with G Company, presented computers, desks, chairs, a printer, and a digital camera to the women of the Faryab province at the center.
“I was very overwhelmed by their appreciation,” Gregory said.
Gregory and Ko also met with the headmasters from the four girl’s schools from throughout the province. Each expressed the concerns for their schools.
“Each school master gave us a list of issues that they would like to get resolved before the winter begins,” said Gregory. “Mainly their concern is the upcoming winter season.”
Collectively, the four schools teach more than 3,000 girls. Most of these girls attend classes under tents with no air conditioning or heating source.
“They educate more than 3,000 girls throughout the whole province; that’s pretty outstanding,” she said. “But right now, each school only has about seven tents that they use to teach their courses. We would like to focus on trying to get them some heaters.”
Gregory, Ko and the rest of 3-6 plan to continue visiting the Women’s Center and hope to help provide for the schools in order to improve the education of the young girls from the Faryab province.
