BAGHDAD - Members of the Iraqi Federal Police and Kurdish Zerevani graduated from a specialized Carabinieri training course Sept. 23 at the Federal Police Special Training Academy at Camp Dublin.

This is the 14th class to graduate this course, and included 535 students from Basrah, Baghdad, Mosul and Kurdish Zerevani. They join more than 8,800 members of the Iraqi Federal Police that have graduated since its initiation in 2007.

Following a pass-in-review for assembled dignitaries that included USF-I leaders and school administrators, the students demonstrated skills they acquired during the eight-week course, including crowd control, hostage rescue and hand-to-hand combat.

“Today the FP is one of the most respected corps in the Iraqi Security Forces,” Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Maurizio Melani said during the graduation ceremony.

The rapidly improving security structure within Iraq is largely due to the success of exercises like this Carabinieri training, Melani said. “It means this training is achieving sustained results.”

“I am so happy the Zerevani have joined with Iraq’s Federal Police for training,” said Adrees, who joined the police force eight months ago. “We have become a new police force that will protect all of Iraq.”
