    Adm. Samuel J. Locklear, III, U.S. Navy, relieves Adm. Mark P. Fitzgerald, U.S. Navy, as Commander, Allied Joint Force Command Naples and Commander U.S. Naval Forces Europe-Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Africa during a ceremony, Oct. 6, at Bagnoli, Naples.

    Locklear’s career as a Surface Warfare Officer includes assignments aboard USS William V. Pratt, USS Carl Vinson, USS Callaghan and USS Truxtun, culminating in command of the USS Leftwich. Locklear’s subsequent fleet command assignments include commander, Destroyer Squadron 2, commander, Nimitz Strike Group, and commander, U.S.3rd Fleet. Ashore, Admiral Locklear served as executive assistant to the vice chief of Naval Operations, the 78th commandant of Midshipmen, United States Naval Academy, director, Assessment Division, and director, Programming Division.
