DAHUK, Iraq (Mar. 17, 2006) - It makes people happy to make their own choices, whether it is buying a soda or saving money at a bank.
In Dahuk, Iraq, Emerald Bank is the only privately owned bank. In this city of 325,000 people, citizens can choose to bank with Emerald or choose a government-operated bank.
"The choice is theirs," said Fakhredin Dosky, Emerald bank manager. "We are the only bank in Dahuk that is privately owned and we are happy with our accomplishments."
According to Dosky, Emerald Bank is open six days a week for their customers and only closes on Saturdays.
"We have several customers that bank with us," he said. "People trust our bank and they are happy with us."
He said that Emerald Bank has several customers who do business with them who are from outside of Iraq.
"It's good to hear that international investors are confident in Emerald Bank and the services they offer," said Maj. Calvin Robinson, Dahuk detachment commander, 401st Civil Affairs Battalion.
According to Dosky Emerald Bank currently has three offices, two in Irbil and one in Dahuk.
"We would like to open another branch here in Dahuk," Dosky said. "We have been operating since 1991, the people here in Dahuk are very happy with us. Eventually we will open another one."
