SAN DIEGO -- Halloween is just around the corner and San Diego offers enough ghoulish frights and spooky good times to keep even the most seasoned trick-or-treater entertained all month long.

Adults, teens and children can enjoy Halloween fun ranging from theme parks to haunted hayrides and glitzy costume parties near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

The MCAS Miramar Single Marine Program is inviting all program beneficiaries to the Halloween Casino Bash at The Hub, Oct. 27, at 4 p.m. The party features a costume contest, free food, a DJ and Vegas-style casino games.

The Monster Dash, a 10 kilometer, 5 kilometer and 1 kilometer race on base hosted by the Miramar Officer’s Wives Club, is open to the public and race organizers encourage costumes. The event is Oct. 30, beginning at 7:15 a.m. For more information, visit www.miramarmonsterdash.com.

Old Town San Diego has walking tours and ghost hunts, or visitors can enjoy a creepy oil-lamp tour of the haunted Whaley House.

Balboa Park Halloween Family Day is free and features Halloween activities, performances and music, Oct. 30.

Pumpkin patch fans can find a tractor hayride and straw maze at Bates Nut Farm, or rides and a comedy show at the Pumpkin Station. Both venues feature a petting zoo and all sizes of pumpkins to chose.

Not much trick-or-treating in your neighborhood? Legoland’s Brick-Or-Treat Trails invites kids 12 and under to enjoy candy and other “ghoulish goodies” Oct. 23 and 30 from 12 to 9 p.m.

The Birch Aquarium is hosting sea-themed trick-or-treating, Oct. 23-24, and downtown Del Mar will have trick-or-treating and arts and crafts stations, Oct. 24.

The 21 and older crowd can find Halloween entertainment at The W Hotel in the Gaslamp district Oct. 30. Partygoers can expect crowds in the thousands, 15 DJs and five different rooms of entertainment.

Also in the Gaslamp will be the 10th annual Dos Equis XX Monster Bash, Oct. 30, and the 7th annual Halloween Ball at The Prado in Balboa Park, Oct. 31.

Have some serious money to spend and want to party with Hugh Hefner? You can attend Playboy’s Kandy Halloween at the Playboy Mansion in Hollywood for only $970.00.

The Del Mar Fairgrounds is hosting the Scream Zone for its 13th year with a haunted hayride, House of Horror and spinning chamber maze.

On Oct. 23 at the Scream Zone, Thrill the World zombies are massing to perform the “Thriller” dance. The dance is set to break a world record as tens of thousands of participants around the globe perform the dance simultaneously.

Whether you’re taking the kids to a pumpkin patch, scaring up some ghosts or thrilling at the fairgrounds, there are plenty of ghoulish options in San Diego for the month of October.
