KABUL, Afghanistan -- Afghan National Police marked the opening of their new Nahri Shahi District headquarters with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday near Mazar-e Sharif.
The new 650,000 euro facility was funded by the German government and offers enhanced security for the ANP, with high walls and guard-house towers on every corner of the property.
"I am very proud to be part of this process, along with the GPPT [German Police Project Team] which helped plan and build this wonderful DHQ [district headquarters]. I feel the level of police work in the district will be much better and the policemen much safer in this new environment," said Col. Jurgen Bielor, senior police advisor and head of the German Police Project Team in Mazar-e Sharif said.
Balkh Province Afghan National Police Commander Gen. Esmatullah Alizai added, "My policemen are very encouraged with this new DHQ, and the security it is providing them. I am very encouraged to see the support the international community is providing for us. It shows they stand behind us in our effort to provide peace and security for the people of northern Afghanistan."
