    Story by Capt. Jennifer Hunnicutt

    Allied Joint Force Command Naples

BAGHDAD - As part of the NATO Training Mission in Iraq, the Italian Carabinieri started teaching the first course to be offered to Oil Police in Iraq Oct. 20 at Camp Dublin in Baghdad.

This new course is being provided alongside the Iraqi Federal Police training, and utilizes an already-proven Carabinieri training programme as a model.

Building on the success of the Carabinieri training of the Iraqi Federal Police, Iraq has requested assistance with the training of its Oil Police to help them develop a cadre of professionals to protect Iraq’s natural resources and critical economic infrastructure. NATO has responded positively, and Italy has agreed to undertake this new task.

Over the course of the next 14 months, more than 1,000 Oil Policemen and more than 100 trainers, of various specialities, should be qualified by the Carabinieri.
