SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. -- Air Mobility Command announced today that Chief Master Sgt. Tami Spellman (female athlete) and Senior Airman Nadar Maghribi (male athlete) have been selected as the command's nominees for the 2010 Air Force Athlete of the Year award.
Spellman is assigned to the 375th Security Forces Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and Maghribi is assigned to the 860th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron at Travis AFB, Calif.
According to AMC officials, Spellman is an exceptional runner competing in numerous races ranging from 5K races to several marathon competitions. In fact, her exceptional performances have led to her qualifying for the 2011 Boston Marathon. Additionally, as a founding member of the Scott AFB Road Warriors fitness group, she mentors teammates and assists them with developing training plans and setting achievable goals based on their fitness level.
Maghribi is an exceptional athlete and wrestler, according to AMC officials. He successfully represented the Air Force at the U.S. Senior National Championships, winning all-American honors and garnering a gold medal at the Armed Forces Championship; the first Air Force winner since 2004. Maghribi also distinguished himself internationally, earning a spot on the U.S. military team at the Conseil International de Sporte Militaire world military championships in Finland; the first Air Force wrestler since 2008.
As AMC's outstanding athletes, Spellman and Maghribi will go on to compete in the Air Force-level Athlete of the Year competition.
