FORT HOOD, Texas – Soldiers in the fires and effects element from 2nd Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, spent their lunch hour with students of Leon Heights Elementary School, in Belton, Texas, as part of the unit’s Adopt-A-School program, Oct 27.

Soldiers shared their normal lunch break with students from kindergarten to fourth grade of Leon Heights Elementary school.

“I got a lot of questions about what I do in the Army and what kind of weapons I shoot,” said Capt. Sheldon Drakeford, of Dallas, the battalion’s community relations officer.

The students and soldiers shared stories, answered questions, talked about Halloween and the Texas Rangers baseball team playing in the World Series.

“I really need to catch up on my Dragon Ball-Z,” Drakeford joked about his time with the students.

Sgt. Jeremy Pelletier, from Kalamazoo, Mich., said it was great to spend time with the students because it was a break from his normal work day.

The Lancers have sponsored Leon Heights Elementary school since the beginning of the Adopt-A-School Program. Each year the battalion participates in and supports the various events hosted by the school.
