MOSUL Iraq (March 13, 2006) - The National Comedy Theater, based in San Diego, Calif. came to Logistical Staging Area Diamondback, Mosul, Iraq to inflict some abdominal pain with riotous jokes and humor.
The comics" act was a caricature of Soldiers" behavior. The comics took on roles of a 1st lieutenant, a specialist, and a private first class. They mimicked Soldiers" speech, remarks, and actions, much to the crowd's delight.
"It's an honor to be here entertaining Soldiers," said Kim Chase, comedian. "To have the opportunity to come here and see people laugh and enjoy themselves is very rewarding."
The talented group is made up of four improve comedians, cast leader Gary Kramer "The Big Cheese," has toured bases throughout Germany, Belguim and the Netherlands. This was his first trip to Iraq. The rest of the team consists of Kim Chase, Mike Eserkaln a.k.a. "The Dog of Fire," and David Tierney a.k.a."The Small Puppy."
"My mom said that I could be an actor, but I'm not allowed to go to Iraq," said Eserkaln.
The comics admitted to being a little nervous when they found out that they would be coming to Iraq, but they said they were intrigued by the opportunity to come and proud to entertain the troops. They also said they were like tourists, taking pictures of everything they passed.
"This is just a small way for us as Americans to show we care about our Soldiers, said Tierney. It has been a privilege to entertain these Soldiers and civilians."
