IRAQ - Thirty Iraqi instructors graduated from the six-week trainer course led by NATO Training Mission – Iraq at the Iraqi Military Academy in Rustamiyah Nov. 4.
The graduation and award ceremony was attended by Lt. Col. Nouri, IMAR deputy commander, and Lt. Col. Jay Turner, IMAR chief mentor.
"The high standards you have displayed during the T3 course will surely be reflected in improving our Army,” said Colonel Nouri.
The course takes a cross section of Iraqi personnel from a number of different branches throughout IMAR, ranging from lance corporal to major, and provides them the necessary knowledge and instructional techniques required to become effective commissioning course instructors for future classes of officer cadets.
The T3 course covers a wide range of topics including battlefield first aid, navigation, weapons handling skill and Defence Instructional Techniques and orders.
Also included are ruck marches, a daily physical training programme, shooting competitions and regular assessment periods.
"The completion of the course should not be seen as an ending, but more a beginning,” said Colonel Turner. “Now is the time for you to use the tools and techniques you learned during this course, to pass your knowledge onto your cadets and to continue to improve the standards of the officers produced at IMAR.”
The primary aim of the training is to increase military knowledge and improve the instructional techniques students will need to train officer cadets.
Assessments and test results demonstrate students improve considerably during the course.
According to several instructors at the school, the greatest difference is the overall attitude, ethos and enthusiasm for the course, which becomes more notable as weeks pass.
