NTM-I facilitates military training agreement between Iraq, Jordan
NATO Training Mission-Iraq leadership attended the inaugural Jordanian and Iraqi Officer Education and Training Cooperation Seminar at the Royal Jordanian Defense College in Amman Nov. 6-8.
The seminar helped lead to the bilateral agreement between Iraq and Jordan to share training opportunities for their military forces.
“This seminar offers a valuable chance for Iraqi officers of the National Defence Academy and their training departments to meet their counterparts in the Jordanian Army in the presence of NATO friends, where we can exchange ideas and visions to build armies ready to face future challenges together,” said General Babakir Baderkhan Al Zibari, Iraqi Armed Forces commander.
The programme was designed to identify common areas of interest and work toward the creation of an agreed roadmap for future discourse and cooperation between Iraq and Jordan.
The national and NATO delegations, which included Lt. Gen. Mike Barbero, NTM-I commander, discussed how to develop close working relationships between the countries, including instructor exchanges between Jordanian and Iraqi institutions, exchange visits between commandants and educational resource exchanges.
“I look forward to seeing your two nations working together for the good of your countries and the region. For my part as COM NTM-I, I stand ready to assist”, said Barbero.
The separate bilateral meeting between Jordan’s and Iraq’s Armed Forces chiefs after the seminar expanded Iraq and Jordan’s training cooperation to include wider access to land, air and maritime training opportunities.
The military leaders also agreed to form a joint committee to monitor the progress of the seminar’s action plan.
