BAQUBAH, Iraq (April 3, 2006) - Military transition teams not only help the Iraqi army become proficient at soldiering skills, but they also emphasize the importance of maintenance to the Iraqi army.
A group of Iraqi army soldiers of the 4th Battalion, 2nd Brigade, 5th Iraqi Army Division huddled around Staff Sgt. Kim Davis of the 4th Infantry Division's 1-68 Combined Arms Battalion MTT. Davis instructed them on the Preventative Maintenance Checks and Services of the humvee.
Davis trains the Iraqi army as a member of the 4th Battalion MTT and works with the Iraqi army soldiers on maintenance and driver training of the humvee.
"It is a good idea, if they know how to operate them, that they need to know how to maintain them," said Davis.
Although this unit does not have humvees of their own yet, this is still good training for them.
"It is a good idea to stay on top of this so that when they do get them they know how to properly take care of them," said Capt. Scott Lynch, the 4th Iraqi Army Battalion MTT leader.
Some Iraqi army units have already been issued humvees and are using them on their patrols.
Knowing how to take care of their vehicles and equipment will ensure the readiness of the Iraqi army force as it continues to develop and work toward the security of Iraq.
