CAMP LEATHERNECK, Afghanistan –Performers with Combined Services Entertainment visited troops at Camp Leatherneck and Camp Bastion during part of a regular tour to forward deployed locations worldwide Nov. 17.
The CSE performers will perform two nights in a row for all service members aboard Camp Bastion and Camp Leatherneck. The entertainment will consist of live music and stand-up comedy shows.
Sean Meo, a professional stand-up comic, is using his time, making deployed troops laugh, to bring service members some comforts from home.
Meo said he volunteered to entertain the troops here in Afghanistan after speaking with some of his colleagues back home who had made the trip on a previous tour.
He wanted to see for himself what life for deployed service members is like and to gain a better understanding of the mission in Afghanistan
He said his mission here is to make people laugh.
“I should be able to take your minds away from some of this for the time I’m on stage, and if not, I haven’t done my bit,” said Meo. “That’s what we’re here for.”
Before the on-stage performance, the performers made stops at 1st Marine Logistics Group, 3rd Marine Air Wing, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion and the Wounded Warrior tent to meet Marines and understand their jobs a little better.
“I have a great affinity for people in the military, more than some of my colleagues,” said Meo. “For me this was a chance to have a talk with you guys, maybe a little more eyeball-to-eyeball than you would normally get.”
Meo will perform for two nights at Camp Bastion before heading to perform at other bases in Afghanistan.
