EL PASO, Texas - Marines with Delta Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marines drove Santa Claus in on a Humvee during the Tree Lighting Ceremony held at the Outlet Shoppes El Paso, Nov. 18, 2010.

The Marines met up with Santa in the Outlet mall parking lot and drove him to where the event was taking place.

“We want to go out there and get involved with the community,” said Staff Sgt. Lucas W. Conley a supply chief and Toys for Tots events coordinator with Delta Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marines.

Santa arrived smiling and waving to the awaiting kids. As he exited the Humvee and walked under the “Sword Arch”, excited children called his name.

“What a way to kickoff the Christmas Holiday,” said John Harrison a visitor to El Paso, Texas. “I was very impressed with the Sword display. Saint Nick walked under those swords like an honored guest. Great Kickoff!!! I think having the Marine Corps participate here tonight says a lot about them.”

Many people were surprised at Santa’s arrival; they were expecting a Santa riding his sleigh.

“I heard that Santa Claus just arrived and all I see is bright lights from the military vehicle”, said Sarah Gonzalez an El Paso resident. “Then I see him stepping out of the vehicle. It was amazing and very creative from their part.”

Attendants said they were touched by the support the Marines gave that night. Seeing the joy and laughter on the children’s face was a great way to end the night.
