BAGHDAD—The United States Division – Center equal opportunity office hosted a Native American Heritage Month 7K run Nov. 15 at Camp Liberty, Iraq, to promote diversity in the military.
“The run was planned to bring the Soldiers and civilians out to celebrate the Native American culture,” said Lt. Col. Sabrina Baker, equal opportunity program manager with 1st Armored Division, United States Division – Center, and a Montgomery, Ala., native.
The run began at 7 a.m. with runners completing one lap around Z Lake and then completing the run with a lap around signal hill.
“It is good to come out and show support,” said Staff Sgt. Keva Jadunath-Thompson, supply sergeant and equal opportunity leader with the 501st Military Police Company, 1st Armored Division, United States Division – Center, and a New York City native. “Events like these help promote the equal opportunity program.”
Afterward, service members and civilians received t-shirts for their participation and enjoyed fruit and drinks provided by the equal opportunity office.
“These events bring out a level of camaraderie and competiveness,” said Spc. Boyd Weilbacher, a chemical biological radiological nuclear high-yeild explosive specialist with 501st Military Police Company, 1st Armored Division, United States Division – Center, and a Micronesia native. “The equal opportunity office did a great job of putting this event together.”
