PARWAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Being separated by thousands of miles did not stop Task Force Falcon soldiers from enjoying an American tradition: a Thanksgiving feast, Nov. 25.
The Aviation Dining Facility, which is run by the soldiers of the 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, served a wide assortment of traditional Thanksgiving courses, including roast beef, baked turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes.
“It was really good,” said U.S. Army Spc. Ricaud Brown, a personnel clerk with the brigade and native of Montego Bay, Jamaica. “It’s nice to get a meal like that while deployed, to get a small taste of life back in the States.”
The people behind serving bar were quite pleased with the menu, having started preparations for the holiday weeks earlier.
“We started prepping for Thanksgiving early,” said U.S. Army Pfc. Curtis Palmer, a food service specialist with Task Force Eagle and native of Brooklyn, N.Y. “We have to order the meat and other food and make sure that we have everything ready.”
The night prior to Thanksgiving, the cooks were defrosting turkeys and preparing the side dishes.
The crew working the dining facility also extended the serving hours so more people could get a taste of home.
“It’s nice to be able to be a part of giving a good day to soldiers while we’re in Afghanistan,” Palmer said.
