A ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed local Afghans to the Panjshir Public Library located in Bazaraq District, Panjshir Province on Nov. 22.
The library includes more than 500 Afghan law reference books available to anyone in need of judicial help. This is one of many projects dedicated to developing the justice sector of Afghanistan.
“This is a great step for the Afghan people,” said Mahboobullah Nickzad, Legal Adviser for Panjshir Provincial Reconstruction Team. “We are trying to extend these kinds of libraries in the future to the rest of the country so that our justice professionals will be more educated when they represent Afghan people in court.”
The building was originally built by the Northern Alliance during the Taliban regime, but has since been reconstructed by PRTs in the area. They replaced windows, installed generators, and supplied a computer and carpets. More than five boxes of judicial reference books were also delivered to the library.
This is the first of three law libraries to open in Panjshir province, and one of nine planned reference law libraries to be established in the provinces of Bamyan, Parwan and Panjshir.
