FORT SILL, Okla. - The second team of radar-trained artillery soldiers returned home to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery during an evening redeployment ceremony at Goldner Gymnasium, here, Nov. 29.
Filling a need for manpower on the Firefinder radar, soldiers of B Battery, 2-5 FA augmented their artillery expertise with an in-depth knowledge of the system, and deployed to Iraq last year, according to leadership within the battalion.
The seven soldiers were welcomed home by cheering friends and family, and later met with a standing ovation during the remarks of the 2nd Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Commander, Lt. Col Douglas Winton.
Thanking the families that supported them during their time abroad, Winton praised them for their contributions.
“Families are a huge part of our success, and we thank you for it,” said Winton.
Concluding the brief ceremony, Winton thanked the members of the second radar team for their sacrifice.
“You’ve contributed directly to our nation’s victory,” he said. “We’re thrilled to see you back home.”
