NAVAL STATION GUANTANAMO BAY, Cuba – Parents of students in grades 4 through 12 at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay’s W.T. Sampson schools are participating in the Department of Defense Education Activity customer satisfaction survey until Dec. 15.

The survey is conducted every two years and gives parents an opportunity to provide DoDEA feedback on the effectiveness of educational opportunities that are provided at GTMO.

“To date, 3 percent of our parents have completed the survey,” said Sonya Rodriguez, the principal of W.T. Sampson’s Unit Schools. “In 2008, there were not enough parental responses to have any statistical significance. In 2006, 27 percent of the parents participated in the survey.”

“The customer satisfaction survey is a formal way in which the voice of our parents is heard,” said Rodriguez. “Without a significant percentage of parental participation on the survey, we will have no official feedback, directly from our customers, to consider when formulating school improvement goals.”

“The survey seeks information and feedback with regard to educational programs, counseling services, school safety, culture, and climate,” said Rodriguez. “In our efforts to continually refine and improve the survey, several new questions have been added this year. The new questions address transition between DoDEA and outside schools, support for online learning, and preferences for a single assessment used by all states.”

“The feedback from the survey guides the school in the continuing school improvement process,” said Rodriguez. “The perception of our parents and students is important to us as we develop goals for improving how we operate and conduct school business.”

“The customer satisfaction survey was designed so that each level of the organization (DoDEA, area, district and school) will receive information for decision-making from each of these very important groups,” said Rodriguez. “At the school level, the data is used to set goals for our continuing school improvement process.”

To participate in the customer satisfaction survey parents should log on at https://webapps.dodea.edu/CSS1011/ .

“Parents can then choose the parent/sponsor survey option,” said Rodriguez. “There will be two screens with additional information before parents choose an area: DDESS, District: South Carolina/Fort Stewart/Cuba; School: Sampson ES/HS. After that page, the survey questions will begin.”

“We welcome all parental feedback,” said Rodriguez. “The most useful data we use in developing school goals is that submitted by our parents and students.”
