NAVAL MEDICAL CENTER SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Cpl. Lucas Goldammer, military policeman with Military Police Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, was a recipient of a combat-meritorious promotion to the rank of sergeant here, Dec. 6.
Unlike traditional promotions that are held in a formation, a more casual promotion took place as Goldammer, 22, from Rapid City, S.D., sat in a wheel chair due to injuries he received while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
Goldammer received a combat-meritorious promotion for his actions while deployed in Afghanistan, according to a citation provided by Brig. Gen. Charles Hudson, 1st MLG commanding general.
“I want to take this opportunity to give a thank you to my sergeants who are still deployed overseas,” said Goldammer. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without their leadership and I’m grateful for the opportunity they provided me with to be on the sergeant board.”
Everyday Goldammer wishes that he’s still in Afghanistan, working side-by-side with his noncommissioned officers, but he’s glad to be home with his family, he said. Goldammer had his mother pin on the rank of sergeant during the promotion ceremony as his way of saying thank you for always being there to support him.
Goldammer is recovering from the injuries he received overseas, and is looking forward to going back to work in the near future.
