CAMP ADDER, Iraq – From the sands of Huntington Beach, Calif., to the sands of Camp Adder, Iraq, Avenged Sevenfold performed an hour-long concert at the Memorial Hall Commons for the Camp Adder Community Nov. 30.
The band consists of M. Shadows, lead vocalist; Synyster Gates, lead guitarist; Johnny Christ, bass guitarist; Zacky Vengeance, rhythm guitarist; and Mike Portnoy, drummer.
“We wanted to thank you guys, from the bottom of our hearts, for doing what you do and keeping us all safe back at home,” said Shadows.
Although the last show of the USO tour, it was certainly not the least in energy or intensity.
Electric guitars sent wails of sound through the open-air commons that vibrated the foundation of Camp Adder. The crowd showed its appreciation by head-banging to every note.
“This is the smallest group we’ve played for on this tour, but you guys are by far the craziest group we’ve played for this tour,” said Shadows.
The concert was definitely a morale booster for the collective community of Camp Adder.
“It was easily the best USO show I’ve ever been to,” said Spc. Brittney Parish, of Murrieta, Calif., supply specialist, Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Advise and Assist Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. “You don’t expect to have that much fun while you’re deployed.”
