CAMP ADDER, Iraq – Two soldiers from Company B, 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Advise and Assist Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, were recognized by Maj. Gen. David G. Perkins, division commander, and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel A. Dailey, both from the 4th Inf. Div., for their hard work, dedication and achievements throughout Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn, Nov. 27.

Pvt. Latisha Bishop, Pfc. Owen Watkins of Company B received division coins during the commander and command sergeant major’s visit to southern Iraq.

While addressing the soldiers, Perkins asked which soldiers were on their first deployment and spoke of the sacrifices of spending the holidays away from home, sharing the time instead with their Army family. He provided some historical context by alluding to Lt. Gen. George Washington’s efforts to lead the Continental Army across the Delaware River into the Battle of Trenton on Christmas night.

Bishop, a fiber optics technician from Chicago, received a coin for her work at the Aerostat, which is a type of blimp used for surveillance and force protection. Her immediate supervisor, Spc. James Williams, of Norfolk, Va., spoke on her behalf at the presentation.

Williams said he experienced a great deal of pride in seeing Bishop receive a coin, since he has been mentoring her throughout the deployment.

Watkins, from Bountiful, Utah, received a coin from Dailey for his work at Eastern Barracks and the Provincial Joint Command Center. He said that receiving the coin made him feel proud to be part of America’s Army.

Watkins’s immediate supervisor, Sgt. Ashley T. Smith, from Augusta, Ga., said, “It is a privilege to see Watkins be recognized, and it was a new and exciting experience for me to sponsor a soldier.”
