BAGHDAD --Maj. Gen. Scott Black, the Judge Advocate General of the Army, Judge Advocate Corps, visited Multi-National Division " Baghdad Soldiers here April 24 to evaluate the effectiveness of his troops.

He said his visit allowed him an opportunity to visit with Soldiers in theater, which is vital when considering a large percentage of the corps" Soldiers are presently here.

"JAG is a low-density corps, with approximately 3,000 active-duty Soldiers " 600 of those Soldiers are in Iraq. If I want to see my forces, I've got to come to Iraq," he said.

The visit, he continued, also provides him an opportunity to assess the delivery of legal services being provided in theater as well as unit motivation and morale.

"Part of that is to conference with commanders to see how they evaluate the services being provided and find out if they are happy with the level of service they are getting," said Black.

"It appears, after my visit here, that everyone is pleased and happy with the services provided and received," said Black.

During his visit, Black officiated the reenlistments of two Soldiers from the Staff Judge Advocates office, Sgt. James Matthews and Sgt. Martin Diaz DeLeon, both of Division Troop Company, Special Troops Battalion, 4th Infantry Division.

"I considered it a special honor to be re-enlisted by Maj. Gen. Black. I admire and respect him, and I feel confident about our future under his leadership," said Matthews.

"From here," he said, "I intend, God willing, to continue to gain experience as a court reporter and JAG leader. Eventually, I want to train and lead new JAG recruits and aspiring court-reporter Soldiers. After retirement, I want to earn a law degree and serve as a judge and civil leader."
