NEW ORLEANS — Brig. Gen. Roger R. Machut assumed command of Marine Corps Mobilization Command from Col. Patrick J. McCarthy Nov. 18 during a change of command ceremony held on Medal of Honor Field here.

McCarthy relinquished his command after a year in charge of the Marines responsible for calling thousands of Reservists from across the country into action.

Reserve Affairs Division Director Maj. Gen. Darrell L. Moore spoke at the event, praising McCarthy and MOBCOM’s efforts throughout the past year.

“I don’t think anyone could have done a better job,” he said, noting the unit had mustered approximately 12,000 Marines in the past year alone.

“The mantle of command has been passed, and it has been rewarding,” McCarthy said to a formation of MOBCOM Marines.

“It’s been an honor and a pleasure to serve with you and for you.”
McCarthy took a moment to thank his parents for guiding him towards a career in the Marines before passing the microphone to Machut.

“Mobilization Command provides value added to the fighting force and to the war fighter; I truly believe that,” Machut said, adding he was confident in the abilities of the Marines now under his charge. “The road ahead is going to be challenging, it’s going to be difficult,” he said. “But I have no doubt that we’ll be able to overcome all obstacles.”

MOBCOM provides administrative support for the roughly 60,000 members of the Individual Ready Reserve and all members of the Reserve who are Individual Mobilization Augmentees.
