BALAD RUZ, Iraq (May 5, 2006) " "When are the Georgians coming â?¦," were the words echoed by medics, mechanics and communication specialists who were tasked to provide additional security at key locations on Forward Operating Base Caldwell.
A platoon of Georgian Soldiers arrived at FOB Caldwell May 3 to ease the strain on U.S. personnel providing security. These U. S. Soldiers who possess critical military operation specialties are needed to accomplish other missions on the FOB. The addition of the Georgians will have an immediate impact on the overall mission and morale.
"For the past couple of weeks Soldiers were asking, "When are the Georgians coming,"" said Maj. Bryon L. Sarchet, operations officer for the Tactical Command Post, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Task Force Band of Brothers. "They're all real happy to see them."
Now that the Georgians are here, the TAC can use more of its resources to accomplish its mission.
"This will free our Soldiers up from various guard positions so that they can get on with being mechanics, medics and commo specialists," said Sarchet.
"They're here to help with force protection and FOB security," said 1st Sgt. Conrad R. Dobson, first sergeant of the 3rd HBCT TAC. "They will guard the dining facility and other key security positions."
"We're glad to have them. They are very attention-to-detail Soldiers."
