8th Commando Kandak partnership with Ministry of Education takes root
ORUZGAN, Afghanistan – The Afghan National Army 8th Commando Kandak assisted in the transport, delivery, and planting of 1,200 almond saplings March 2 provided by a coalition civil affairs team to the Oruzgan Provincial Director of Education to enhance the landscape at Tarin Kowt area schools.
“The planning and execution of this project, to assist the Ministry of Education, was conducted entirely by the director of education and the 8th Commando Kandak executive officer,” a Coalition civil affairs officer said.
The 8th Commando Kandak executive officer directly supervised the delivery of the trees as well as the soldiers who aided in the distribution and planting of the saplings in different locations. The two parties took the opportunity to discuss the need for schools and improved education in many of the areas where the 8th Commandos have conducted operations in the past.
The meeting ended with the executive officer offering further assistance to support the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Ministry of Education’s effort to improve education throughout the province.
“The support provided demonstrates the 8th Commando and Afghan National Security Force’s commitment to the local community and demonstrates their ability to conduct civil military operations,” the Special Operations civil affairs officer said.
“The 8th Commando leadership and the Director of Education now have a personal relationship which may pay dividends in the future.”
