Afghan citizens killed, wounded in IED attack in Deh Chopan
DEH CHOPAN, Afghanistan - Two Afghan citizens were killed and four others were injured March 12 after an improvised explosive device exploded near a vehicle in the Deh Chopan district of Zabul province. The IED was emplaced by local insurgents operating near the village of Mirzayan, according to Coalition and Afghan National Security Forces working near the scene.
Among the dead and wounded are women and children, said a coalition surgeon familiar with the incident. The injured citizens were taken to a nearby Coalition medical facility for treatment.
“This is another example of indiscriminate targeting of innocent Afghan citizens by insurgents,” said Lt. Arlo Abrahamson, a Coalition spokesman. “The attack demonstrates their lack of respect and concern for the lives of local citizens.”
