CAMP PHOENIX, Afghanistan – The adjutant general select for the South Dakota Army and Air National Guard, Brig. Gen. Timothy Reisch, visited soldiers, March 22, serving in Kabul, Afghanistan, as part of a battlefield tour with senior National Guard leaders from South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska.

Reisch, who was recently selected as the new commander of the SDNG by Gov. Dennis Daugaard, visited National Guard soldiers from the 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, of Sioux Falls, before officially taking over his new adjutant general responsibilities, April 2.

“You should be very, very proud of what you all are doing here,” said Reisch, during his visit to one of the camps in Kabul. “I’m extremely happy with how you are performing your mission here and you are all doing a great job.”

Reisch was also accompanied by Command Sgt. Maj. Larry Zimmerman, SDNG state command sergeant major, as well as adjutant generals and state command sergeant majors from Iowa and Nebraska.

“No matter if it’s Golden Coyote or all of S.D.’s previous deployments, the South Dakota Army National Guard has had nothing but superior ratings no matter where we go, and you guys are a big part of that,” said Zimmerman. “As an organization, there is nothing better than the SDARNG, and I couldn’t be more proud.”

The National Guard contingent will be traveling throughout the Afghan theater for several days to visit more troops, and gain further insight on the contributions made by National Guard forces before returning to the U.S.
