MAZAR-E SHARIF, Afghanistan – Three U.S. Army soldiers, assigned to U.S. Army Special Operations Command and currently serving with International Security Assistance Force Regional Command North, were presented the German Bundeswehr Badge for weapons proficiency during an awards ceremony on Camp Marmal March 14.
German Army Brig. Gen. Volker Thomas, deputy chief of staff for security, ISAF RC-North, presented the Schutzenschnur in Gold to Lt. Col. Jeffrey Martin, Maj. Patrick Nelson and Capt. Reinaldo Gonzalez II.
The service members scored in the gold category with the German G36 service rifle and P8 service pistol for their respective qualification courses. The Schutzenschnur in Gold is the highest level of marksman proficiency in the German Armed Forces and an authorized foreign decoration of the U.S. Armed Services.
