KABUL, Afghanistan - More than forty Afghan Air Force airmen graduated from various courses at Pohantoon-e-Hawayee, the Afghan Air Force's "Big Air School," on the Afghan Air Force base in Kabul, Afghanistan, March 31.
The mass graduation covered students who completed the Basic Loadmaster, Basic Instructor, Aircraft Ground Equipment and Firefighting courses.
Given an opportunity to speak to the graduates, AAF Col. Arif Angar, PeH commander, said, “This is an important but basic step you are taking. Do not just be satisfied with the certificate. Go back to your units and keep developing your skills.”
On hand for the event was Canadian Brig. Gen. Kelly Woiden who was visiting PeH as part of a tour of the AAF Base in Kabul.
Taking time to address the various Afghan Airmen, Gen. Woiden expressed his belief in the ability of the developing Afghan armed forces due to the new wave of personnel, saying that they were the future and foundation of Afghanistan’s air defense efforts.
The graduation marked the first instance of Afghan airmen graduating PeH’s Basic Instructor course, an achievement that air force officials believe is a step towards a more professional and productive organization able to continue the wheel of instruction as coalition force draw down in the region.
Next, the graduating airmen head to their respective units on the heels of their personal success provided with the opportunity to expand that success from a personal matter to one whose benefit stretches across the nation.
