ZABUL, Afghanistan - Insurgents in Zabul province inflicted attacks against Afghan civilians April 6, injuring six children.

In the Deh Chopan District, a coalition Special Operations team discovered a boy suffering from a broken leg and severe blood loss after being hit by a mortar initially aimed at U.S. and Afghan forces operating in the area.

On the same day in the Arghandab District, five children were hit and injured by an improvised explosive device blast. One boy lost both legs in the explosion and was taken to a coalition medical facility along with five others who were injured in the attacks.

“These attacks demonstrate the disproportionate use of force and aggression by insurgents,” said a Special Operations team leader on the scene. “These careless acts are injuring and killing innocent civilians and destroying the livelihood of local villages.”
