ANSF finds, removes IED in Khas Uruzgan
URUZGAN, Afghanistan - A local Afghan citizen reported a pressure plate activated IED to Afghan and coalition forces in the Khas Uruzgan District of Uruzgan province, Afghanistan, April 2.
The local Afghan National Police checkpoint commander guided a patrol to retrieve and reduce the device, according to ANP officials.
An ANP official said the removal demonstrates the increased cooperation between Afghan citizens and local security forces.
“The IED was safely destroyed with no casualties,” said the checkpoint commander. “We are denying the insurgents the ability to plant IEDs around the Khas Uruzgan District.”
The consistent removal of insurgent emplaced IEDs in the district has improved freedom of movement for both Afghan National Security Forces and the local populace.
“This is another example of the Afghan government’s ability to provide security for its people,” said a coalition spokesman who was with the patrol. “The success of ANSF today established their competence and capability to the local citizens.”
