BELLE CHASSE, La. – Marine Forces Reserve hosted a golf tournament at the Bayou Barriere Golf Club April 21 to support this year’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
The tournament was open to all Marines, Department of Defense civilians and their families.
“It’s a beautiful day to play golf, and it’s the best turnout we’ve ever had,” said Capt. Brian Wisneski, MarForRes ammunition officer and event coordinator.
During the fundraiser, Marines were able to relax on the golf course, as well as contribute to the funds that will go into making this year’s ball successful.
“I like to have fun and do it for a great cause,” said Gunnery Sgt. Steven Saucedo, Installation Personnel Administration Center active maintenance chief. “Even when it is during working hours.”
Throughout Marine Corps bases across the world, Marines host fundraisers to pay for their local Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
“We had almost every section of MFR attend,” Wisneski said, explaining that 66 Marines and DoD civilians participated in the event.
Col. Robert Kelly, 1st Lt. George McDonnell and Gunnery Sgt. Steven Perry, all staff judge advocate Marines, along with Gunnery Sgt. Alan Benoit, a French horn player with Marine Band New Orleans, made up the winning team.
Wisneski said he wants to do at least three more golf tournament fundraisers, as well as other events in the coming months.
