MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society hosted a nine-pin no-tap bowling tournament April 29 at the Stars N’ Strikes Bowling Alley to raise money for Marines, Sailors and their families who may need financial support.

The bowling tournament was the second and final event for this year’s fund drive hosted by NMCRS. During the month of April, Marine Corps installations around the world helped the organization by hosting special events in an effort to raise money.

“This tournament is important to help raise money for an organization that gives and gives,” said Lance Cpl. Zachary A. Wolaver, a motor transport mechanic with Marine Air Control Squadron 2. “By us coming out here and having a good time bowling, we get an easy way to give back so that others can be helped. I would gladly pay $15 to bowl in this tournament just to help out a fellow Marine or Sailor in need.”

The tournament consisted of eight four-man teams and raised $256 for the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society.

In April, as the fund drive month ended, the NMCRS raised more than $450 between its golf and bowling tournament, and had a grand total of more than $4,000 in total donations and funds raised throughout the month.

“The NMCRS is so important,” said Lance Cpl. Andrew R. Richards, a motor transport mechanic with MACS-2. “With everything we do for the nation, it is nice to see there are people out there giving back to an organization that helps us as service members. It’s nice to know that our families will be taken care of if we need help because of those who gave back to NMCRS.”
