    BACKGROUND

The soldiers deploying to Fort Irwin will provide direct transportation support to logistics elements of the 39th Brigade Support Battalion. The troops will use vehicles already positioned on site at the National Training Center for rotational units.

The soldiers are scheduled to return to Queensbury on May 28.
    1427th Medium Truck Company:

The 1427th Transportation Company, Medium Truck was originally organized in 2003 in Rochester and officially activated in 2005 whereupon it was transferred to Glens Falls. Equipped with M1088 tractor trucks and M871A3 semi-trailer flat beds, the 1427th provides critical logistical support and is always prepared to haul essential containerized cargo and equipment wherever necessary. Although a newly formed unit, the 1427th Transportation Company maintains a vital tradition of transportation from the animal-drawn wagons and railroads of the 18th and 19th centuries to the diesel-powered rigs of today. In the spirit of the US Army Transportation Corps motto, "Nothing happens until something moves," without the 1427th, things would quickly grind to a halt.

The National Training Center, Fort Irwin, Calif.

The NTC is the Army's premiere training ground for tough, realistic joint and combined arms training. The center focuses on battalion task force and brigade level training programs.

The NTC trains Army forces by conducting force-on-force and live-fire training in a joint scenario across the spectrum of conflict. The training utilizes a highly lethal and capable Opposing Force and provides training mentors and observers through an expert and experienced Operations Group. The training uses the full complement of combat, combat support and combat service support systems in an expanded maneuver area with multiple urban operations sites and portrays the complexity and human dimension of the modern battlefield.
