FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. – Maj. Gen. David Quantock, commanding general of the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood, held a 5K Fun Run/Walk from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., May 6, on Gammon Field. The walk was held to promote healthy lifestyles and further enhance esprit de corps among the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and civilian workforce at Fort Leonard Wood.
Quantock led the 5K run, and Dr. Rebecca Johnson, deputy to the commanding general, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood led the 5K walkers.
Non-commissioned officers from the NCO Academy called military cadence during the run.
Quantock provided opening remarks before the runners and walkers hit the trail.
"We have the greatest civilian workforce in the world here at Fort Leonard Wood--and it's important that you stay healthy--you are our foundation," Maj. Gen. Quantock said.
Dr. Johnson concluded the event and urged participants to consider four steps to getting and staying healthy for a lifetime to include: eating right; avoiding/reducing pre-processed, fast foods and foods with chemical preservatives; getting enough sleep; and exercise.
As walkers and runners left Gammon field, many commented that they hope this becomes a more routine event.
