VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. — Hatboro, Pa., native and Palisades High School Class of 1992 graduate, Christopher Mullen was promoted to the rank of Navy Petty Officer 1st Class during a ceremony with Marines and Sailors aboard Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia, today.
Since checking into MCTAG in July 2008, Mullen has deployed more than 10 times in support of security cooperation efforts in Central and South America and the U.S. Central Command area of operation.
Before checking into MCTAG, Mullen served as a hospital corpsman with Marine Aircraft Group 49 in Willow Grove, Pa., where he deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
From January 1993 until January 1997, Mullen served as a Marine Corps field radio operator with 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, Japan and he also served with 9th Communications Battalion, Camp Pendleton Calif., where he deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit aboard the U.S.S. Peleliu.
Mullen is married to Christina Mullen of Richboro, Pa., and they have four children James, Ivy, Andrew and Chloe.
Mullen’s parents still reside close to the Hatboro, Pa., area.
His mother Joyce Chappell lives in Silverdale, Pa., and his father Albert Mullen resides in Springtown, Pa. Mullen’s father is a veteran of the Vietnam War. According to the newly promoted sailor, his father inspired him to join the Naval service.
