KABUL, Afghanistan – The International Security Assistance Force joins President Karzai in condemning the killing and wounding of several Afghan civilians in an insurgent IED attack that targeted road workers in the Spirwan area of Panjwaii district, Kandahar province today.
Reports indicate a vehicle carrying approximately 40 road workers struck an insurgent-placed roadside IED, killing more than 10 civilians and wounding up to 30.
“We join President Karzai in condemning the killing and wounding of these innocent Afghan construction workers. This attack again demonstrates the insurgents’ utter disregard for innocent life,” said Rear Admiral Vic Beck, ISAF Director of Public Affairs. “Our thoughts are with the families affected by this attack, and we wish for a quick recovery to the injured.”
“These frequent, indiscriminate and brutal attacks that kill innocent Afghans are signs of the insurgents’ desperate attempt to remain relevant,” said Beck. “We will not cease in our efforts to help our Afghan counterparts stamp out the insurgency and bring those responsible to justice.”
