FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. -- A Memorial Day Ceremony was held Monday, May 30, at 1 p.m., at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Fort Leonard Wood. Maj. Gen. David Quantock, commanding general, Maneuver Support Center of Excellence and Fort Leonard Wood was the guest speaker for the ceremony. General Quantock delivered a message in honor of the 1.2 million veterans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our way of life and freedoms. Rick Sallee, Missouri Veterans Cemetery at Fort Leonard Wood, was the master of ceremonies; Rev. Dana Bridgewater provided the invocation and benediction; "Taps" was performed by Harry Eaton; and Michael Mogan played the bag pipe. The event was well attended by area Veterans and the local community.
The Missouri Veterans Cemetery at FLW, was formally dedicated on September 13, 2010, and is the fifth operational state Veterans cemetery in the state of Missouri. The Cemetery Property was donated by the U.S. Army Maneuver Support Center and Fort Leonard Wood and is situated on 229 beautiful acres.
